How do you secure a distinctive style of speaking that adds great value to organizers? How do you become a speaker who Shifts the Paradigm? Personal or professional, free or paid, knowing what kind of speaker you are can help you position your message to make a DIFFERENCE. To attract amazing clients and become memorable, decide which one of 3 types of public speakers you are to become an outstanding and unforgettable Paradigm Shifter.
1. The Transformational Speaker - They make big changes in their audience using standard skill, a before during and after storyline. They also have a powerful climax where the audience can truly feel something life changing. TIP: To add a new dimension to the experience, add originality or clearly demonstrate your "awareness" to bring new light into the room.
2. The Inspirational Or Motivational Speaker - They have power to move the intellect or emotions. They instill pride or other incentives or values as reason to motivate audiences towards various goals. TIP: For advanced impact inspire others to think big, innovate, take risks, experiment, and persevere. For an added bonus show them a few steps on how to.
3. Instructive/ Educational / Activist Speakers - They can empower the audience with their Knowledge that becomes power. Experts, professors, journalists, scientists, professionals, teach and thrive in seminar and workshops. Activists; priests, politicians, activists, etc, spread their ideals or recruit members. TIP: Include updated research findings or results that wake up your audience and always chose to speak at events that share your goals.
What all three of these types have in common is that are easily contributing to their audience. Audiences either learn something, feel something or decide to take action after their experience listening. This prevents the speaker from ever becoming what many conference attendees avoid, the “Hidden Agenda” Speaker.
The “Hidden Agenda” speaker is at an event purely for business, not for adding value. They could be a salesperson trying to sell their company’s products or marketing themselves using the platform. They are mostly suited to industry conferences where organizers are OK with it. This speaker’s objective is to sell, not to inspire or educate. Often the case, their entire speech and presentation are a thinly disguised sales pitch that can have a negative impact. They can effect on the reputation of an event because audience members come in order to learn something or benefit in some way, not be sold to.
So if you're selling as a reason to speak rather chose events that support that and make sure you are adding great value first. Also most businesses events or conferences need returning attendees who come back to other events. So try to bring participants to the event to support your organizer or curator. This will make you a distinctive speaker that cares, even if you sell. Most of all find a great mentor that can connect you far beyond the scope of the event and train you to enhance your speech with a clear USP. Really lucky speakers find mentors that teaches them to be the one people want to buy from rather than tell people to buy from them, during their speech. This happens easily when you shift how people think. Aligned from your heart you transform, inspire or empower and move from a public speaker to a Paradigm Shifter.
